Bran Muffins

2 tbsp shortening

3 tbsp sugar

1 egg

¾ cup milk

1 cup bran

1 cup flour

½ tsp salt

2 tsp baking powder

Cream shortening and sugar, add egg and beat well. Stir in milk, then bran. Add flour (sifted) with salt and baking powder, stir till dry ingredients are just moistened. Fill greased tins and bake 20-25 minutes at 420F. Can add ½ to ¾ cup dates or raisins.
